   Solution:
1. Twelve years ago my uncle came over from Calcutta without a penny. He didn't have much money. My father had to help him.
2. First he worked in another Indian restaurant. He washed the dirty cups and plates.
3. For a year he stayed in that job.
4. Then he started work as a bus conductor. He liked driving through London. 
5. Two years later a friend offered him a waiter's job. My uncle learnt to cook and serve Indian food and to write bills.
6. After three years he opened his own restaurant in the East end of London. He had to do nearly all the work there.
7. Today he has made it.

 Retold: Changing the point of view:  "I"  instead of "He"

I came over from Calcutta without a penny twelve years ago,
My brother helped me.
I found a job in an Indian restaurant.
I washed the dirty dishes for a year.
Then I worked as a bus conductor.
I drove through London.
After that I worked in a waiter's job.
I cooked and served Indian food and I wrote bills.
Three years later I opened my own restaurant in the East End of London.
Today I've made it.
